Web Hosting
The Internet has over the years grown into a dominant force in the world, changing the way we live and do business. And for this reason, many organizations are increasingly taking their presence on the Internet extremely seriously, and are unwilling to take any chances with it. New organizations are on the other hand learning that having a website is a prerequisite to success it today’s business and corporate world and not having one could severely limit one’s horizons. In any case, not many people are likely to take you seriously as a business entity unless you have a website.
Having identified the importance of having a website, many organizations go looking for the ways in which they can get one. Their choice of a webhost, they are told, will go a long way in determining their success on the Internet. They are therefore advised to make a good choice of a webhosting service provide, firm in the knowledge that a poor choice of a webhosting service provider is something that might come to haunt them at some point in the future.
Now the problem is that are so many webhosting service providers on the Internet that one finds themselves spoilt for choice in terms of a service provider, hence the need for a criterion under which they would choose the webhosting service provider.
A good webhosting service provider is one who gives the people who host their websites with them high ‘uptimes’. A website which is ‘down’ is of no use to you as the owner, as no one will be able to access it. Of course, almost all webhosting service providers promise a 99.9% uptime – but in practice it can tend to be much lower – hence the need to cross check their promise of a 99.9% uptime with independent sources like the participants in various web forums who have previously used the services of the webhosting service provider in question.
A good webhosting service provide also offers the people who host their website with them enough bandwidth and storage space to run the ordinary website activities they need. Of course, no webhost can offer indefinite amounts of storage space and bandwidth, but a good one at least offers enough for the basic operations so that a user only has to upgrade when their needs have really grown. The problem with many fraudulent webhosting service providers is that they allocate the people who host websites with them such small amounts of storage space and bandwidth in their standard packages that the users find themselves having to upgrade to another webhosting plan (of course at a considerable cost) in no time.
And talking of costs, a good webhosting service provider also charges reasonable fees for their services – keeping in mind that in most cases, the whole webhosting venture occurs in a business setting where there are cost and profit considerations. Of course, this is not to say that the cheapest webhosting service provider is always the best – but rather to say that a webhosting service provider who charges slight more than the others should be able to provide something extra to the people who hosting their website with them to justify the extra fee.
